how does therapy work?
if you have a question that I haven't answered here, please get in touch.
Why begin therapy?
Asking for help is a brave and intelligent thing to do. By recognizing that some aspect of our lives is painful and that we want support or guidance of some kind, we are taking our first steps toward the life we want. Beginning therapy creates a ripple effect in a person’s life and can often result in lasting change and transformation.
Talking to a therapist can help meet our basic human need for connection, empathy and an outside perspective. When we are isolated with our problems, the likelihood of our overcoming them is very small. Beginning therapy is a profound step out of isolation and into positive change.
What are your Fees and how can i pay?
My fee is $225 for individual therapy sessions, $275 for couples therapy sessions and $250 for Jungian Tarot sessions and Private Practice coaching sessions. Sessions are 50 minutes in length. Payment is due at the beginning of the session. Your credit card will be charged the day of your first session and during your first session we will discuss payment options moving forward.
can i use my insurance to cover the cost of therapy?
I am an out of network provider, which means that I do not bill insurance companies and clients pay me directly. Some clients have insurance that covers out of network providers or have an FSA/HSA account through their employer which they can use to pay for therapy. I give clients a receipt at the end of the month which they can submit for reimbursement from their insurance provider.
how do i book an appointment?
The best way to book an appointment is to use the online schedule. This way you or you and your partner can see all the available appointments and choose the one that works best. This service is completely confidential and protected. If you are a new client, this is a great way to get started and you can click this link to book your first appointment. Make sure you read all the instructions and the cancellation policy before you book your appointment. If there are no appointments available you can call or email me to be placed on my waiting list.
what is your cancellation policy?
Therapy works best when you are consistent however - life happens. My clients have recurring session times that are reserved just for them. My clients are financially responsible for all recurring session fees. If client’s are unable to attend their session for any reason and let me know with at least 48 hours notice I will try to find an alternate time for the same week.
What will our sessions be like?
During our first few sessions, we will be getting to know each other. I will be asking you some questions about your relationships, your work, your mood, and your personal strengths and challenges. We will talk about where you are well developed, and where you are less developed. Together, we will build a vision of how you want to grow and change and then asses what obstacles may be standing in your way. Together, we will find and develop your resources to address your challenges and to feel better.
We will also explore how to capitalize on your challenges as opportunities to grow, gain insight, feel alive and increase your connection with yourself and others. I use a variety of techniques that go beyond traditional talk therapy that clients often find interesting and productive. I use these techniques to help you know yourself better, release pent up emotions and expand your perspective. These techniques may include “empty chair” work, art therapy, guided imagery and meditation, role play and or dreamwork. Some clients love to work with these techniques and others prefer a more traditional approach. As a client centered therapist, I employ the techniques that work best for each individual.
How will I know if we're a good fit for one another?
You will know if we are a good fit because some part of you will want to come back! If you feel safe to be yourself, our conversations interest or enliven you, and you feel I can empathize with you as a human being, it probably means we are a good fit. Most importantly, you should experience some relief, benefit or shift as a result of therapy.
Do you offer online sessions and does online therapy work?
All sessions are held online in my virtual office until further notice. Research shows that online therapy is highly effective and works just as well as in person therapy. Online therapy gives people the opportunity to engage in therapy from the comfort and safety of their own homes, or during their travels. You and your partner can sit comfortably in your own living room during online couples therapy. If you want to book an online session, you can do so by using the online scheduler.
I think I have a problem with drugs or alcohol What should i do?
Contact me today. I can help you get clear on the role drugs or alcohol are playing in your life. Many people use drugs or alcohol to medicate painful feelings and while this may work for a time, often the consequences become too destructive. Addiction is a treatable disease and psychotherapy can help. Choosing a therapist who has experience and expertise in treating addiction is important. Addiction gets worse, not better if left untreated. Many people say that admitting they had a problem and asking for help were the first steps towards relief. People can not recover from addiction alone or in isolation. The good news is many people do recover, and go on to have profoundly happy lives.
How can couples therapy help my relationship?
Couples therapy creates a safe place to talk about your relationship. As a result of facing and resolving conflicts or worries, many couples enjoy their relationships more and feel an increased attraction to their partners. Facing and talking about difficult feelings in a supportive environment often brings people closer together. Couples therapy can help you and your partner get to know each other better and learn how to have a relationship where both people feel safe to be themselves and loved for who they really are. Coming to couples therapy can greatly increase your well being because experience and research shows that being in a loving, supportive relationship can significantly contribute to your health and happiness.
when you say "spiritual" what do you mean?
When I say our work may be spiritual in nature I mean that we will be working together to get down to the heart of things. My Jungian and holistic approach to therapy means that during our work together there is space for you to explore questions of spirit. We may use different techniques such as mindfulness practice, guided meditation and art therapy to nurture connection with your Self.
